Democratization of the City – With everybody!?

Two housing activists from Caracas – Venezuela will give us an overview over the beginning of the „Right to the city“ movement in Caracas, will present their struggles for a dignifying life in the city and report their successes in the field of self-organization. Both form part of a movement in that the landless and those replaced to the margins of the cities get organized to reclaim urban spaces. Furthermore they form part of a platform in that various movements, that reclaim urban and rural space and that fight for the right of all people to live a dignified and good life in the city and elsewhere, unite forces. How were things back in time, before Chavéz and the new constitution? How did todays strong and big “Movement of the populating” found and form? What are the struggles being fought in urban and rural areas about and how is it going? How has it become possible, that collectives with more than 90 families reconquer terrain to build their future apartments solidary communities and much more in self-organized construction sites? Those and similar questions will be responded!

Zwei Wohnraumaktivist_innen aus Caracas – Venezuela werden uns einen Überblick über die Anfänge der Recht-auf-Stadt Bewegung in Caracas geben, uns ihre Kämpfe um ein würdiges Leben in der Stadt vorstellen und von den Erfolgen ihrer Selbstorganisierung berichten. Beide sind Teil einer Bewegung der Landlosen, in der an die Ränder der Stadt Verdrängte sich gemeinsam organisieren, um städtischen Raum wieder zu erobern und die in einer Plattform gemeinsam mit anderen Recht-auf-Stadt-Bewegungen für das Recht aller Menschen auf ein würdiges und gutes Leben in der Stadt und anderswo kämpfen. Wie war das früher, bevor Chavéz und die neue Konstitution kamen? Wie hat sich die heute starke und große Bewegung der Bevölkernden gegründet und formiert? Was sind die Kämpfe, die in Venezuela um urbanen und ländlichen Raum geführt werden und wie läuft' s? Wie ist es möglich geworden, dass Kollektive mit über 90 Familien Flächen zurück erobern, um dort in selbstorganisierten Baustellen ihre künftigen Wohnungen, solidarische Gemeinschaften und vieles mehr aufzubauen? Diese und ähnliche Fragen werden wir beantworten!
