Domestic utopias - Feministische Wohnutopien der Moderne. Inputs zu Impulsen des 20. Jh. und aktuelle Beispiele aus Leipzig (Felicita Reuschling)

Domestic Utopias I

In the labor movement the main focus of revolution was traditionally on the public and the appropriation of previously privatized industrial resources. There was less focus on organizing the way of life. In contrast to that – and to tie in with the exhibition “Domestic Utopias” - the input will present concepts of the 20th century for a “grand domestic revolution”. Utopian alternatives for that will be introduced, starting with the separation of private and public, production and reproduction which are specific for capitalist society. Do real and/or fictitious residential utopia contain or contradict elements of feminist materialism? Out of which context was the impulse for a different organization of reproduction work released and which limits of this approach do we see from a present-day viewpoint? In dialogue with Nahla from the group “Klasse Bewusstsein (~ class awareness)” from Leipzig we want to talk about the participants’ current experiences and wishes in matters of residential utopia.

Das Bild der Revolution war in der Arbeiterbewegung traditionell auf Öffentlichkeit und die Aneignung von zuvor privatisierten industriellen Produktionsmitteln gerichtet. Der Organisation der Lebensform wurde weniger Beachtung geschenkt. Demgegenüber wird der Input – anknüpfend an die Ausstellung »Domestic Utopias« – Konzepte aus dem 20. Jahrhundert für eine »grand domestic revolution« vorstellen. Ausgehend von der Trennung zwischen Privat und Öffentlich, Produktion und Reproduktion, die spezifisch für kapitalistische Gesellschaften sind, werden utopische Alternativen dazu vorgestellt. Inwiefern enthalten gelebte und/oder fiktive Wohnutopien Elemente eines feministischen Materialismus oder widersprechen diesem? Aus welchem Kontext kamen die Impulse für eine andere Organisation von Reproduktionsarbeit, und welche Grenzen hatten diese Ansätze aus heutiger Sicht? Im Dialog mit Nahla von der Gruppe Klasse Bewusstsein (Leipzig) wollen wir mit den den Teilnehmer_innen über ihre aktuellen Erfahrungen und Wünsche zu Wohnutopien sprechen.
